### Responsibilities
**Major duties and responsibilities include:**
* Sets up food service counters, cold tray assembly line, service stands including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread and beverages.
* Transports hot and cold food items to proper serving areas.
* Serves on the tray assembly line, placing appropriate foods on the trays as outlined on the tray ticket.
* Takes carts to units, sets up trays and delivers to patients.
* Retrieves trays and returns soiled trays to designated areas.
* Communicates patient concerns, compliments or problems to appropriate Nutrition Service staff, supervisor, dietitian or co-worker in a timely manner.
* Assists in the storage of any food or beverage items by unloading, transporting and shelving said items.
* Properly cleans heavier cooking utensils or pots and pans. Properly sorts, scrapes, rinses racks washes and stores dish ware, glasses and flatware in centralized dish room.
* Disposes of trash and garbage.
* Properly cleans, vacuums, scrubs, sweeps, wipes, mops, and washes all areas of the dining room, main kitchen, vegetable room, storage areas and ingredient room.
* Cleans, scrubs, wipes and washes kitchen equipment such as refrigerators, cafeteria/tray line equipment, work tables, dish dispensers, tea dispensers, water and ice machines, tray conveyor carts, food carts, hoods, ranges, ovens, and steam equipment.

**EXPERIENCE:** A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C.
**SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT:** Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
**Note**: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
**Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
PHYSICAL EFFORT**: Incumbent is involved in moderate physical effort such as pushing food carts, sweeping, mopping, and washing walls and service equipment. Daily lifting and moving objects weighing 30 lbs. Frequent lifting and moving objects weighing 50 lbs, or more in duties such as unloading supply trucks; pushing food carts. Constant standing and walking.
**WORKING CONDITIONS:**Steam and heat from cooking equipment in the centralized dish room and pot and pan washer often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. Sometimes, extreme temperatures of the dish room and the walk-in refrigerators and freezers may be experienced. The area is generally noisy. There is a danger of slipping on floors where food or liquids have been dropped or spilled or which are wet from mopping. Minor cuts, burns, bruises and scalds are a risk.
